  A collector's antique Bedouin crescent shape pectoral or necklace, from Arabian Peninsula. Early to mid 20th century. Excellent alloy of silver, decorated with red cut stones and plastic ( at the center ). Certainly made by a master jewish silversmith. A VERY RARE SAMPLE AND OPPORTUNITY , not represented in the more important collections ! It measure about 14.5 cm. ( 5.70" ) in height ( all included ) and the width is 14 cm. ( 5.51" ). Weighs 156 grams ( 5.50 Oz ).

  A wonderful antique silver and old resine Bedouin necklace, from Yemen. Excellent applied workmanship on the charm case with matching silver beads of the same quality, all presenting the hallmark or signature of the silversmith, in arabic calligraphy. See a similar sample ( but with non matching beads ) in " The Art of Bedouin Jewellery ..." by Heather Colyer Ross, p. 62. The cylindrical charm case is not openable and is made with low grade silver. The beads present a good quality of silver alloy and are worn by places. Great Patina ! Recently restrunk on strong wire. A rare quality sample. It measure about 97 cm. ( 38.18" ) in circumference, all included. The diameter of the beads is 3.3 cm. ( 1.29" ) for the biggers  and 1.9 cm. ( 0.74 ). The cylindrical charm case measure 10 cm. by 7.8 cm. ( 3.93" by 3.07" ). Weighs 256 grams ( 9.03 Oz ).

Very good alloy of silver and excellent craftmanship, with a later addition of three hallmarks : 800, a lotus and an arabic letter.   A superb pair of antique silver Bedouin bracelets from Fayoum, in Egypt. Early 20th century. A very rare sample with two " Tughra " Ottoman calligraphic seal or signature ( worn ) and two marks of the silversmith ( worn ), most probably Mohamed El Mekkawy, a Bedouin silversmith famous in all North Africa, with a later addition of egyptian hallmarks ( 800 and a lotus ) on one of them. Usually these bracelets do not wear any marks. See similar sample in " Enchanted Jewelry of Egypt " by Azza Fahmy, p.111. Ligthly adjustable, they are easy and confortable to wear. The inner circumference measure 20.1 cm. ( 7.91" ) and the interior diameter 6.4 cm. ( 2.51" ). The height is 2.3 cm. ( 0.90" ) and the space at the opening 1.4 cm. ( 0.55" ). These Talismans were in use from Tunisia to Egypt. This sample is in excellent conditions and present one libyan hallmark from the period anterior to 1969. Very good alloy of silver.   A beautiful antique silver " Zar " amulets necklace from Egypt. This jewellery was used for special purposes, particulary the "Zar ceremony " and is very scarse on the market. These necklace, made with amulets stamped with the name of Allah or verses from the Coran to protect from the evil, were worn by the " Kudya " during the " Zar " ceremony. See similar samples in " Enchanted Jewelry of Egypt " by Azza Fahmy, p.164. One small loop is damaged ( replaced with a plastic wire ) and the chain is missing, but could be easily replaced. Early to mid 20th century. Low grade silver. The central amulet measure ca 7.5 cm. by 5.5 cm. ( 2.95" by 2.16" ), including the dangles. Weighs 80 grams ( 2.82 Oz ).

  A very nice group of three silver gilt Bedouin " Arusa " from Egypt. This jewelry is a short tube made up with thin wires of silver around it's entire length, with three discs encircling the tube. It was used to hold up the strings that are tied at the back of the head to keep in place the veil or burqa. See similar samples in " Enchanted Jewelry of Egypt " by Azza Fahmy, p.177 ss. and in " Desert Silver " by Sigrid van Roode, p. 6. They measure ( from left to right ) : 3.1 cm. by 1.5 cm. ( 1.22" by 0.59" ), 2.3 cm. by 0.8 cm. ( 0.90" by 0.31" ) and 3.6 cm. by 1.7 cm. ( 1.41" by 0.66" ). The smaller one is ligthly crushed, the two others contain a small tube of wood. The first piece from the left has three hallmarks : 800, a lotus and a letter. The last one has three marks : 800, a cat and a letter of the years 1943-1944. The maller present an hallmark with " 900 ". Total weight is 8 grams ( 0.28 Oz ).

  A wonderful antique silver Bedouin hinjed bracelet from  Sanna'a, in Yemen. These bracelets, finely decorated represent the height of the silversmith Art. Superb patina on medium grade silver. Early 20th century. A fine example of the Yemeni Jewish work, famous for fine silver craft. In good conditions, with the original stem, but with one small dome worn and an old repair near the hinge ( interior ).   A beautiful antique red coral and silver Bedouin necklace, from Yemen. Made up with five rows of authenthic red-orange coral beads of very good quality ( they present very few holes ) and size. The colour scale of the coral is quiet uniform but vary from red-orange to ligth brown-orange ( it is very difficult for me to get coral pictures the correct colour ). Low grade silver, with some partitions made up with mixed metals. Strongly restrunk. The diameter of the coral beads is from 3 mm. ( 0.11" ) to 9 mm. ( 0.35" ). It measure about 47.5 cm.   A wonderful antique red coral and silver Bedouin necklace, from Yemen. Made up with five rows of authenthic red-orange coral beads of very good quality ( they present very few holes ) and size. The colour scale of the coral is quiet uniform but some beads are more red ( it is very difficult for me to get coral pictures the correct colour ). The triangular ends are in very good alloy of silver, the small partition pieces are in non-precious metal. Strongly restrunk. The diameter of the coral beads is from 2 mm. ( 0.07" ) to 11 mm. ( 0.43" ). It measure about 73 cm. ( 19.29" ) in circumference, all included. Weighs 174 grams ( 6.13 Oz ).
